New Mazda 3.

Will continue in five-door hatchback and four-door sedan variants. The wheelbase has been stretched by 60mm and the body is 40mm wider and 15mm lower. At launch, there will be 2.0-litre and 2.5-litre SkyActiv petrol engines, Maciver says. The transmission options will be Mazda's SkyActiv-NT manual and SKYActiv-Drive conventional automatic. "A normal torque converter locks up for 60-70 per cent of the time but this one locks up 90 per cent so it's much more fuel efficient and direct,'' he says. The car's Australian preview includes an local appearance by exterior design chief Yasutake Tsuchida and advanced studio head Yasushi Nakamuta. Typically, the talk is about the emotion in the car's design, not about the clear visual connection to the outgoing car or the more refined side sculpting or the new look in the nose, or a cabin that still puts the driver first. "We pursued a rhythmical look for the new Mazda3 design that displays energetic tension,'' the company says. "At the same time, we aimed for a design that will earn the all-new Mazda3 a place in the hearts of customers as a trusty partner, rather than a mere means of conveyance.''

Mazda Minagi Concept is the New CX-5

Mazda today confirmed what many of us already suspected – that the Minagi concept shown at the 2011 Geneva Salon earlier this year will form the base for a production model that will be called the CX-5. The Japanese company hasn’t released any other details on the CX-5, but it did say that the compact crossover model will go on sale worldwide in early 2012.

Inside in Mazda 6.

nside, soft materials are used at touch points while the instrument panel features Bourdeaux-colored metal and “dark metal.” Mazda says it features a “driver oriented cockpit” with “three meters laid out symmetrically in the meter hood,” which “heighten the expectations for exciting driving.” We figured out that if we exchange the word “gauges” for “meters” that statement makes sense. The wheelbase of the new Mazda 6 is 1.6 inches longer than the outgoing model, and shoulder room, knee room and leg space have all been increased. The trunk also opens wider, for easier access. In addition to its stop/start system, the Mazda 6 also uses i-ELOOP, which is a regenerative braking system. It stores power from braking in a capacitor that can be used to run the car's electronic accessories. A full suite of safety systems is available on the sedan, including backup sensors, adaptive front lighting and Smart City Brake Support that hits the brakes automatically to avoid obstacles, even if the driver isn't paying attention. Lane departure warnings and hill holding are also offered. EPA fuel mileage numbers haven't been released yet, but we predict highway mileage will be above 30 mpg for both engines. U.S. pricing will be announced closer to launch. Read more: http://www.autoweek.com/article/20120828/carnews/120829836#ixzz2W2RTx3Ux Follow us: @AutoweekUSA on Twitter | AutoweekUSA on Facebook

Exciting SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY offers greater fuel economy, extraordinary performance and more Zoom-Zoom enjoyment, while reducing weight, adding strength and improving safety. It's smart, futuristic thinking that you’d expected from Mazda. SKYLAB showcases the SKYACTIV features of the All-New Mazda6. All-New Mazda6 is equipped with a number of advanced active safety technologies, which form part of Mazda's i-ACTIVSENSE range. These revolutionary features offer excellent safety performance over a wide range of driving conditions, helping the driver to recognise hazards and avert collisions, or reduce their severity in situations where they cannot be avoided. In a world first, Mazda has developed i-ELOOP, a revolutionary capacitor-based system that stores the brake energy of the All-New Mazda6 and redistributes it to help run the car's electrical instruments, saving fuel in the process. i-ELOOP not only improves your fuel economy by up to 10% but also enables up to 100% of the engine's power to go directly to where it counts. i-stop, Mazda's idle stop technology, introduced with Mazda3 SP20 SKYACTIV and CX-5, is also found in the All-New Mazda6. i-stop cuts the engine automatically whenever the vehicle comes to a stop, reducing emissions and saving even more fuel.
